Softball Recap: Liberty-Benton Extends Winning Streak to Three

Liberty-Benton had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 11 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Monday. They blew past the Bath Wildcats 16-7. The Eagles have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Wildcats, too.

Reagan Knapke spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three runs (all of which were unearned) on seven hits and racked up eight Ks. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Liberty-Benton let Kylie Steinman and Hayden Gillig run wild. Steinman went 3-for-4 with one home run, five RBI, and two runs, while Gillig went 3-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Steinman has been hot recently, having also posted at least one stolen base the last three times she's played. Alyssa Roberts was another key player, scoring three runs while going 2-for-4.

Liberty-Benton was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .444. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their batting average total in three consecutive matches.

Liberty-Benton's win bumped their record up to 3-1.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Liberty-Benton will take on Elida at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Liberty-Benton is facing Elida at the right time seeing as Elida is stuck on a three-game losing streak. As for Bath, they will welcome Ohio County at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Bath's pitchers better be ready for this one: Ohio County has averaged an impressive 7.5 runs per game this season.
