Softball Game Preview: Walnut Mustangs vs. Bonita Bearcats

The Walnut Mustangs will challenge the Bonita Bearcats at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The squads are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Walnut has struggled recently with eight defeats in a row, while Bonita will arrive with four straight victories.

Walnut fell victim to Ayala and their airtight pitching crew on Thursday. They lost 11-0 to the Bulldogs.

Meanwhile, Bonita earned an 11-7 win over Claremont on Thursday.

Serenity Reyes made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out seven batters over five innings while giving up three earned (and three unearned) runs off eight hits (and only one walk). With that strong performance, she is now averaging an impressive 5 strikeouts per game. She was also stellar in the batter's box, firing off two home runs and five RBI while going 3-for-4. Those five RBI gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Koa Puppe was excellent, going 3-for-4 with two runs and two RBI. Skyy Hicks was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double.

Bonita kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits in four consecutive matchups.

Bonita's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 17-8. Those road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.0 runs on average over those games. As for Walnut, their loss dropped their record down to 2-17.
