Basketball Recap: Southside Takes a Loss

Southside lost against MacArthur back in December of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The Southside Cardinals had to suffer through a 56-29 loss at the hands of the MacArthur Brahmas. The Cardinals were down 43-23 at the end of the third quarter, and things only got worse from there.

When it comes to explaining why Southside lost, don't look at McKayla Flores. Despite the final result, she posted 14 points and five rebounds. Another player making a difference was Gabryela Galvan, who put up six points.

MacArthur's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Zion Zarb-Cousin led the charge by going 6 of 7 en route to 13 points and eight boards. Ellie Lee was another key player, going 5 for 12 on her way to 11 points along with eight assists and six rebounds.

Southside dropped their record down to 25-8 with the defeat, which was their third straight at home. As for MacArthur, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won nine of their last ten contests, which provided a nice bump to their 25-8 record this season.

Southside has already played their next matchup, a 58-41 win against Harlandale on the 31st. As for MacArthur, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 61-28 victory against South San Antonio on the 31st.
