Paramount has gone a perfect 6-0 against Firebaugh recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Tuesday. The Pirates are taking a road trip to challenge the Falcons at 3:15 p.m. Paramount is coming into the matchup hot, having won their last ten games.
Paramount's pitching crew heads into the game hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Thursday. They put the hurt on Bellflower with a sharp 18-0 victory. Considering the Pirates have won 12 contests by more than five runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.
Delylah Zermeno was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit while striking out eight over four innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 15 consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with three RBI, one run, and one double.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Laritza Esparza, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. That home run marked the first that she has launched this season. Another player making a difference was SAMANTHA MERCADO, who went 1-for-2 with four stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI.
Paramount was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .647. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .320 or higher in 11 consecutive matchups.
Firebaugh came out on top against Lynwood on Thursday thanks in part to the team's impressive six-run third inning. The Falcons walked away with an 11-6 win over the Knights.
Abygail Huizar spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered six runs (all of which were unearned) on two hits and racked up eight Ks.
At the plate, Camila Curumaco was incredible, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with one home run, three stolen bases, and three runs. The team also got some help courtesy of Valeria Valdivia, who went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one double.
Paramount's record is now 14-4-1. As for Firebaugh, their record now sits at 16-6.
Firebaugh's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Paramount has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 11.5 hits per game. It's a different story for Firebaugh, though, as they've been averaging 8.7 hits. Given Paramount's sizable advantage in that area, the Falcons will need to find a way to close that gap.
Paramount got the 'W' in their previous matchup on April 2nd against Firebaugh by a conclusive 14-1 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Pirates since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
