Baseball Recap: Lincoln Takes a Loss

Lincoln had lost four straight at home, but on Friday they dropped their record down to 14-29 to make it five. They fell just short of the Plymouth Wildcats by a score of 5-3. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Wildcats this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 12-0 two weeks ago.

Michael Stone and Connor Sindlinger did some serious damage despite the final result: Stone went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases and one run, while Sindlinger got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one double and one RBI. Stone is becoming a predictor of Lincoln's success: when he posts at least two stolen bases the team is 4-2 (and 10-27 when he doesn't).

As for Plymouth, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 11 of their last 12 contests. That's provided a massive bump to their 21-18 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.1 runs over those games.

On Plymouth's side, Trevor Carlton looked comfortable as he pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Carlton has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two hits in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Jackson Asaro, who went 2-for-4 with three stolen bases, two runs, and one double. That's the most runs he has posted over his last four matchups. Another player making a difference was Nick Riebschleger, who went 2-for-4 with two RBI.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Lincoln will face off against Belleville at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Railsplitters are facing the Tigers at the right time seeing as the Tigers are stuck on a three-game losing streak. As for Plymouth, they will take on Detroit Country Day at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday.
