Baseball Recap: Blackhawk Triumphs

Blackhawk proved they can win big last Monday (they won by ten) and on Tuesday they proved they can win the close ones too. They narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past the Hampton Talbots 6-4. While the Cougars didn't have the best season last year (they finished 8-11), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.

Carter Davis was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out nine batters over 3.1 innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits (and only one walk). Davis was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two RBI and one double.

In other batting news, Connor Welsh was excellent, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-3. That's the most hits he has posted since back in April of 2024. Sam Saliba also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.

Blackhawk kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in four consecutive contests.

Blackhawk pushed their record up to 4-1 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.3 runs over those games. As for Hampton, they are on a nine-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-4.

Coming up, Blackhawk will square off against Mohawk Area at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Hampton, they have already played their next game, a 5-2 loss against Valley on the 27th.
