Recap: Gallup Bengals vs. Shiprock Chieftains
The Gallup Bengals pushed their score all the way to 62 on Saturday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They took a 71-62 hit to the loss column at the hands of Shiprock. Gallup was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Chieftains apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in February of 2023.
Nevaughn Begay was his usual excellent self, scoring 28 points for Shiprock. Begay is crushing the point category: he's posted at least 16 every time he's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Donte Nelson, who scored 12 points.
Gallup has fallen quite a ways from their 21-8 record last season and are now at 6-10. As for Shiprock, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 10-6.
Gallup will head out on the road to square off against the Tigers at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Aztec has now lost seven straight, and the team is hunting for their first win since December 28. As for Shiprock, they will be playing at home against the Lynx at 6:30 p.m. on Monday. Rehoboth Christian is looking to tack on another W to their six-game streak on the road.
