Crystal City is 0-7 against Hondo since November of 2018 but things could change on Friday. The Javelinas will welcome the Owls at 7:00 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Hondo will be up against a hot Crystal City team: the squad just extended their winning streak to seven. The Javelinas really took it to Poteet for the full four quarters, racking up a 55-12 win. With the Javelinas ahead 35-12 at the half, the matchup was all but over already.
Crystal City got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Adrian Zavala out in front who rushed for 260 yards and two scores while picking up 16.3 yards per carry, and also picked up 70 receiving yards. Zavala's longest rush was for an incredible 95 yards. Christopher Mena was another key signal caller, throwing for 306 yards and four touchdowns while completing 77.8% of his passes.

Crystal City didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Felix Luna and Nick Flores. Flores is also on a roll when it comes to total tackles, as he's now made five or more in each of the last four games he's played.
Meanwhile, Hondo humbled Lytle with a 56-27 victory. The win continues a trend for the Owls in their matchups with the Pirates: they've now won six in a row.
Crystal City better keep an eye on Kolten Alvarez. He was instrumental in Hondo's win, rushing for 94 yards and one TD on only nine carries, while also throwing for 170 yards and one touchdown on only 15 passes. A healthy portion of Alvarez's aerial production (84 yards to be exact) went to Cade Aelvoet.
Hondo was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 204 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 204 rushing yards in three consecutive games.
Special teams was a major factor in the game for Hondo, racking up 18 points in total. The biggest highlight from special teams (and perhaps the team as a whole) came courtesy of Layton Pope, who ran a kickoff back for a touchdown.
Crystal City's victory bumped their record up to 7-0. As for Hondo, their win bumped their record up to 6-1.
Friday's contest might be decided on the ground. Crystal City has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 326.6 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Hondo struggles in that department as they've been averaging 217.4 rushing yards. There's a good chance Friday's matchup turns into a tough fight on the ground.
