Game recap: Centennial High School Football Team bests Arbor View

LAS VEGAS, Nev. - Centennial (Las Vegas, Nev.) saw its 8-point lead dwindle to five, but still managed to hang on and upset Arbor View (Las Vegas, Nev.) 14-9 on Saturday.

After taking the lead on a touchdown in the second quarter, the Bulldogs led 14-6 at the half.

Centennial saw its 8-point halftime lead fall to five entering the fourth.

The loss came as a surprise for the Aggies, which entered the game ranked No. 2 in the MaxPreps Freeman Rankings for Nevada, while CHS was ranked No. 3. Arbor View came into the game having won five of the past eight games between the two teams.



Coby Newton played well for the Bulldogs in the victory. The senior running back ran for one touchdown. He has now scored eight touchdowns on the season.

Jacob Speaks made a difference for AV. The junior running back ran for one touchdown. His performance brought his touchdown total to nine on the year.

The Aggies' lone touchdown came on a 61-yard run by Speaks in the second quarter.

Centennial entered the contest giving up 20.0 points per game this year. The defense really stepped up, holding Arbor View well below its season average of 38.8 points scored per game.

The Bulldogs got revenge for last year's 20-13 loss to AV with the victory.

The defeat comes as a step back for Arbor View, which notched a 57-0 victory over Desert Oasis in its previous outing. With the win Centennial extended its winning streak to three games.
