Basketball Recap: Bluefield Beavers vs. James Monroe Mavericks
Bluefield was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their 14th straight defeat dating back to last season. They had to suffer through a 60-20 loss at the hands of the James Monroe Mavericks. Sadly, that's the second time they've come up short against the Beavers this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 62-28 two weeks ago.
Leading James Monroe to victory were Mya Dunlap and Maggie Boroski. Dunlap went 7 for 12 on her way to 21 points and six rebounds, while Boroski went 6 of 13 on her way to 13 points in addition to eight boards and five assists. Boroski is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last 17 games she's played dating back to last season. Another player making a difference was Hannah Terry, who posted eight points.
Bluefield's loss dropped their record down to 0-9. As for James Monroe, the victory (which was their seventh in a row) raised their record to 7-2.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Bluefield will welcome Independence at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday. As for James Monroe, they won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Greenbrier West at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
