Monacan is 2-8 against Cosby since May of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Thursday. The Chiefs are taking a road trip to challenge the Titans at 5:00 p.m. Monacan will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each match than the last.
Monacan is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. Everything went their way against James River Midlothian on Tuesday as they made off with a 21-12 victory. The win was a breath of fresh air for the Chiefs as it put an end to their three-game losing streak.
Monacan got a massive performance out of Katelyn Marshall, who got on base in all five of her plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Marshall also hit a double, marking her first of the season. J'Ael Lewis was another key player, getting on base in three of her five plate appearances with one home run and four runs.
Monacan always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .600. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their OBP total in three consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, Cosby came tearing into Tuesday's game with four straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 7 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 7-6 W against the Cavaliers. That's two games straight that the Titans have won by just one run.
Kam Brown made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out eight over seven innings pitched. She has been consistent: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in eight consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-4 with one triple and one RBI.
In other batting news, Kammie Walter was excellent, going 1-for-2 with one triple, two RBI, and one run. Another player making a difference was Lily Taylor, who went 1-for-3 with one triple and two RBI.
Monacan's record now sits at 2-8. As for Cosby, their record is now 7-2.
Monacan suffered a grim 9-3 defeat to Cosby in their previous matchup back in March. Can the Chiefs avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
