Basketball Recap: Bella Walter's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Centennial over Las Cruces

Centennial lost a heartbreaker to Las Cruces when they met back in February, and they left with a heavy heart again on Wednesday. The Centennial Hawks took a 41-27 bruising from the Las Cruces Bulldawgs. The Hawks haven't had much luck with the Bulldawgs recently, as the team has come up short the last five times they've met.

Centennial lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Bella Walter, who posted five points and eight rebounds. Those eight boards gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Skyler De La Cruz, who put up eight points.

Bethzy Quinones continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines for Las Cruces, almost dropping a double-double with 18 points and nine steals. Quinones has been hot for a while, having posted two or more steals the last nine times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Sofia Herrera, who earned eight points and three steals.

Centennial's loss dropped their record down to 12-15. As for Las Cruces, their victory was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 18-8.

Centennial does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Las Cruces, they have already played their next matchup, a 51-42 defeat against Mayfield on the 28th.
