Baseball Recap: Rowland Comes Up Short

Rowland extended their losing streak to five on Thursday, dropping their season record down to 7-13 in the process. They fell 3-0 to the West Covina Bulldogs. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Bulldogs this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 5-3 on Tuesday.

Rowland saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was CJ Carrillo, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base. Logan Dwyer also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.

As for West Covina, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last eight matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 13-9 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 4.0 runs on average over those games.

On West Covina's side, Max Murillo made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out nine over seven innings pitched. Those nine strikeouts gave Murillo a new career-high. He was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one run and one double.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Rowland will square off against Wilson at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Wildcats have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed nine runs per game on average), something the Raiders will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for West Covina, they will challenge Covina at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
