Baseball Game Preview: Western Brown Broncos vs. Clermont Northeastern Rockets

Western Brown is a perfect 3-0 against Clermont Northeastern since April of 2015 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Friday. The Broncos will take on the Rockets at 6:00 p.m. Neither Western Brown nor Clermont Northeastern posted many runs in their last games, so it might be the pitching crews that decide this one.

Western Brown fell victim to Beechwood and their airtight pitching crew on Thursday. They came up short against the Tigers, falling 13-0.

Meanwhile, Clermont Northeastern sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 2-1 victory over Bethel-Tate on Wednesday. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Rockets.

Brady Schmidt was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He struck out seven batters over four innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases.

In other batting news, Rowdy Etling was excellent, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs. Those three hits gave him a new career-high.

Clermont Northeastern's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 9-6. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.3 runs over those games. As for Western Brown, they now have a losing record of 6-7.

Western Brown beat Clermont Northeastern 8-5 in their previous matchup back in May of 2017. Will the Broncos repeat their success, or do the Rockets have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
