The Mount View Mustangs will hit the road for the first time this season to square off against the Old Orchard Beach Seagulls at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. Mount View will be strutting in after a victory while Old Orchard Beach will be coming in after a defeat.
While Mount View's win against Maine Central Institute wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Mustangs narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past the Huskies 4-3. The Mustangs haven't had any issues with the Huskies recently, as the game was their eighth consecutive win against them.
Cole Gerrish made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over 6.1 innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off three hits. Gerrish was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI. That double marked the first that he has hit this season.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Kaden Bradeen, who went 2-for-4 with one triple, one stolen base, and one run. That triple was his first of the season. Another player making a difference was Miles Carter, who went 2-for-4 with one double and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Old Orchard Beach came up short against St. Dominic on Friday and fell 9-4. The loss was the Seagulls' first of the season.
Like Mount View, Old Orchard Beach also got a great game from a two-way player: Aiden Hodgkins. He pitched four innings while giving up just two earned (and four unearned) runs off five hits. Hodgkins has been consistent recently: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with one RBI.
In other batting news, Wesley Gallant made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one double. Gallant is crushing it when it comes to stolen bases: he's snagged at least one every time he's taken the field this season. Caleb Aube was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one run and one RBI.
Having lost for the first time this season, Old Orchard Beach fell to 3-1. As for Mount View, the victory got them back to even at 2-2.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Monday as neither team is afraid to steal. Mount View has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.8 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Old Orchard Beach struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 6.2 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Mount View came up short against Old Orchard Beach in their previous meeting back in April of 2024, falling 6-1. Can the Mustangs avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
