New Bern took a five-goal defeat the last time they faced off against Croatan, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Bears sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 6-5 victory over the Cougars on Monday. While New Bern didn't have the best season last year (they finished 8-12-1), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.

They hit Croatan with a three-pronged attack, as the team got scores from Grant Leary (3), Spencer Goodwin (2), and Grady Carr.

New Bern's win bumped their record up to 7-0. As for Croatan, they are on a seven-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 0-8-1.
