Football Game Preview: Sumrall Bobcats vs. Stone Tomcats + Official Tickets

Sumrall hasn't had much luck against Stone recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Bobcats will head out on the road to square off against the Tomcats at 7:00 p.m. Both come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

It was a proper cat-fight when Sumrall took on North Pike on Thursday. The Bobcats came out on top against the Jaguars by a score of 24-17.

Meanwhile, Stone had already won five in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 17.4 points) and they went ahead and made it six on Thursday. They enjoyed a cozy 35-21 win over the Hornets. The Tomcats pushed the score to 35-7 by the end of the third, a deficit the Hornets cut but never quite recovered from.

This one was won in the trenches and the lion's share of the credit has to go to Amarion Fairley and Ayden Green. Fairley rushed for 118 yards and a pair of touchdowns on only 13 carries while Green gained 109 total yards and two touchdowns. The dominant performance also gave Fairley a new career-high in rushing touchdowns (two). Another player making a difference was Zander Howard, who rushed for 59 yards.

Stone was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 297 rushing yards. They are a perfect 5-0 when they've run for more than 200 yards.

One reason for the win was Stone's imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for four sacks. Colton Ladner refused to say out of the backfield, picking up two sacks all by himself. Stone got some further help from Ladner: he picked up two sacks and made nine total tackles (4.0 for loss).

Sumrall's record now sits at 7-4. As for Stone, their record is now 7-3.

Sumrall was dealt a bruising 41-6 defeat at the hands of Stone when the teams last played back in November of 2022. That contest was all but decided by halftime, at which point the Bobcats were down 20-0.
