Volleyball Recap: McFarland Takes a Loss

McFarland lost against Sauk Prairie back in October of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The Spartans fell just short of the Eagles by a score of 3-2. The Spartans have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back matches.

McFarland took a 2-1 lead headed into the fourth set, but sadly they lost the next two. The final score came out to 25-14, 16-25, 15-25, 25-18, 15-8.

Despite the defeat, McFarland saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Talia Riemen had 14 digs and three aces.

Sauk Prairie was led to victory by Bentlee Conway and Mallory Hartwig. Conway had 12 digs and four aces, while Hartwig had 19 kills, ten digs, and two aces. Hartwig has been hot for a while, having posted five or more kills the last 28 times she's played. Mackenna Murphy also deserves some recognition as she had her first kill of the season.

McFarland's loss dropped their record down to 15-17. As for Sauk Prairie, their win was their 12th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 21-3.

Coming up, McFarland will host Monona Grove at 7:00 p.m. on the 16th. As for Sauk Prairie, they will venture away from home to challenge Waunakee at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
