Jarius Powers and Kiyoko Proctor secure win for Alton

Recap: Alton Redbirds vs. Okawville Rockets

The Alton Redbirds came tearing into Monday's contest with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 47.3 points) and they left with even more momentum. They enjoyed a cozy 45-29 win over Okawville. Despite the win, that was the fewest points Alton has scored all year.

Alton was led to victory by Jarius Powers and Kiyoko Proctor. Powers dropped a double-double on ten points and 11 rebounds, while Proctor scored 14 points along with six rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Talia Norman, who scored four points along with seven rebounds and two blocks.

When it comes to explaining why Okawville lost, one person who can't be blamed is Alayna Kraus. Despite the final result, she scored 17 points along with eight rebounds and three steals. Kraus has been hot recently, having posted 15 or more points the last 11 times she's played. Another player making a difference was Caroline Tepe, who scored two points along with five rebounds and three steals.

Alton's victory bumped their record up to 21-1. As for Okawville, their loss dropped their record down to 15-6.

Alton on the road again on Wednesday and play against Nashville at 8:00 p.m. on January 17th. One thing working in Nashville's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last four games. As for Okawville, they will face off against O'Fallon at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. O'Fallon has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.
