Football Recap: Chaney Takes a Loss

The matchup between Chaney and Boardman on Friday hardly resembled the 15-0 effort from their previous meeting. The Cowboys and the Spartans were almost perfectly matched up, but the Cowboys suffered a 35-34 defeat. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Cowboys of the 15-0 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in September of 2024.

Chaney lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Asuante Mickel, who rushed for 158 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 8.3 yards per carry, and also threw for 185 yards and one TD while completing 76% of his passes. Dewayne Thompsom was another key player, gaining 118 total yards and two touchdowns.

Chaney now has a losing record of 1-2. As for Boardman, their win (their first of the season) made their record 1-2.

Chaney wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next game, a 27-6 defeat against West Branch on the 12th. As for Boardman, they have also already played their next match, a 36-20 victory against Maple Heights on the 12th.
