Football Recap: Grace Starts Season with Loss at Home

Grace unfortunately couldn't capitalize on their home-field advantage in their season opener. They took a 45-34 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Santa Paula Cardinals on Friday. The Lancers were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Cardinals apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in October of 2017.

Grace lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Landon Cooper, who picked up 195 receiving yards and three scores. He was no stranger to the big play, cutting upfield on a catch that went for 55 yards. Jake Williams also helped with two touchdowns in total.

Santa Paula had a senior duo take command as Ryan Luna rushed for 197 yards and a pair of TDs while picking up 8.6 yards per carry and Sebastian Alcantar rushed for 137 yards and three scores while picking up 8.6 yards per carry.

Grace didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next game, a 40-14 win against Arrowhead Christian on the 29th. As for Santa Paula, they have also already played their next match, a 42-14 loss against La Canada on the 29th.
