Softball Recap: Holland Christian Comes Up Short

Holland Christian had lost six straight on the road, but on Friday they dropped their record down to 8-10 to make it seven. They lost 11-1 to the Kalamazoo Christian Comets. Having soared to a lofty 14 runs in the game before, the Maroons couldn't push the score so high this time.

As for Kalamazoo Christian, their win ended a five-game drought at home and bumped them up to 16-8. They might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 11 matches by seven runs or more this season.

For Kalamazoo Christian's part, Allison Howes was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she pitched four innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits. Howes has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one walk in eight consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, earning two runs and two stolen bases. Those two stolen bases gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Cecile Ybema was incredible, going 2-for-4 with four stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. That's the most runs she has posted since back in April. The team also got some help courtesy of Madalyn Vlietstra, who went 1-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.

While Holland Christian had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair will be back at it again later today.
