Football Recap: Brady Mollendor and Hudson Peterson Pace Sedgwick County Defense

Sedgwick County had to skate by with only a two-point margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the 22-point drubbing they dealt Hoehne on Friday. The Cougars put the hurt on the Farmers with a sharp 50-28 victory. The final result isn't all that surprising considering the Cougars' considerable advantage in MaxPreps' Colorado football rankings (they are ranked fifth, while the Farmers are ranked 32nd).

Owen Harris had an outrageously good game as he rushed for 202 yards and three touchdowns on only 15 carries. Those 202 rushing yards gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Brady Mollendor, who rushed for 115 yards and a pair of scores on only six carries.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Sedgwick County was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 324 rushing yards. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Hoehne only rushed for 132.

Sedgwick County didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Mollendor and Hudson Peterson. Mollendor is also crushing it when it comes to rushing yards: he's rushed for at least 112 every time he's taken the field this season. He got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.

Sedgwick County now has a winning record of 2-1. As for Hoehne, their loss ended a four-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 1-2.

Sedgwick County wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next matchup, a 24-23 win against Simla on the 26th. As for Hoehne, they have also already played their next game, a 40-26 defeat against Springfield on the 26th.
