The Heritage Eagles are taking a road trip to square off against the Douglas County Huskies at 4:15 p.m. on Monday. Heritage is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.5 runs per game this season.
On Friday, Heritage didn't have quite enough to beat Ponderosa and fell 5-4. The Eagles have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Heritage got a good showing from Camden Nichols, who tossed three innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. What's more, Nichols gave up only zero walks, the fewest he's had since back in March.
On the hitting side, Heritage saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Bryant Buelow, who went 2-for-4 with one run and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Douglas County hadn't done well against Mountain Vista recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. The Huskies beat the Golden Eagles by the very same score they won with in their prior game: 5-3. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Huskies.
Douglas County also got a great performance from Dylan Langstaff as he tossed five innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. Langstaff has become a key player for the Huskies: the team is 4-2 when he allows at most one earned run, but 4-8 otherwise.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Spensor Sharp, who went 1-for-3 with one home run and three RBI. Those three RBI gave him a new career-high.
Douglas County pushed their record up to 8-10 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. They've had to fight for that success though, as they only beat their opponents by an average of 1.67 runs across that stretch. As for Heritage, their loss dropped their record down to 6-15.
Heritage couldn't quite get it done against Douglas County when the teams last played back in May of 2024 as they fell 9-5. Can the Eagles avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
