Baseball Recap: Holcomb Beats Garden City for Their Third Straight Victory

Holcomb got themselves on the board against Garden City on Friday, but Garden City never followed suit. They put the hurt on the Buffaloes with a sharp 7-0 win. Fans of the Longhorns have seen this all before: every one of the games they've played this season has ended in a blowout of 6+ runs.

Ethan Zapata made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run while striking out six over seven innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in April of 2024. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one RBI.

In other batting news, Alan Ortega was a standout: he scored two runs while going 2-for-3. That's the most runs he has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Jacob Olvedo, who went 3-for-4 with one stolen base and two RBI.

Holcomb kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Garden City only managed three hits.

The victory (which was Holcomb's third in a row) raised their record to 3-0. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.7 runs on average this season. As for Garden City, they are on a five-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-2.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Garden City beat Holcomb by a score of 4-3 later that day.
