Football Recap: Talawanda Piles Up the Points Against Carroll

While Talawanda didn't have the best season last year (they finished 3-8), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They took their match on Friday with ease, bagging a 42-8 win over the Carroll Patriots. The game was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 35-0.

Lance Cantrell had another great game (as he tends to do), rushing for 286 yards and four touchdowns on only ten carries. Cantrell is crushing it when it comes to rushing yards: he's rushed for at least 127 every time he's taken the field this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Carter Jordon, who rushed for 86 yards and one TD on only six carries.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Talawanda was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 407 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 184 rushing yards every time they've taken the field this season.

Talawanda didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Kemper McAfee and Miles Sutter.

Talawanda's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 5-0. Those road wins came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 11.3 points on average over those games. As for Carroll, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 1-4.

Coming up, Talawanda will face off against Ross at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Carroll, they will take on Archbishop McNicholas at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Rockets' defense has only allowed 13.4 points per game this season, so the Patriots' offense will have their work cut out for them.
