Baseball Game Preview: Maple Heights Mustangs vs. Lorain Titans

Maple Heights hasn't had much luck against Lorain recently, but that could start to change on Saturday. The Mustangs will venture away from home to challenge the Titans at 11:00 a.m. Maple Heights is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 11.1 runs per game this season.

Maple Heights will roll into the contest after a wild two-game stretch: they only put up one run last Wednesday, then bounced right back against Garfield Heights on Monday. The Mustangs blew past the Bulldogs 20-1. The Mustangs have beaten the Bulldogs the last five times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Bulldogs has come to flipping the script.

Marvin Wolfe was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He struck out nine batters over four innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with one run.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on TJ Lee, who went 3-for-5 with seven RBI, three doubles, and two runs. Maple Heights is undefeated when Lee posts two or more runs, but 0-3 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Antonio Cunningham, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with three runs and three RBI.

Maple Heights was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .444. They are a perfect 4-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

Meanwhile, while Lorain put up some runs on Friday, the same can't be said for Clearview. The Titans walked away with a 4-0 win over the Clippers.

Lorain has been performing well recently as they've won six of their last eight games. That's provided a massive bump to their 6-8 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.3 runs over those games. As for Maple Heights, their record is now 6-3.
