Basketball Game Preview: Fisher Catholic Irish vs. Newark Catholic Green Wave

The Fisher Catholic Irish and the Newark Catholic Green Wave will face off at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday without much rest having both just played. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last games, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this contest.

On Friday, Fisher Catholic was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap as they fell 52-48 to Grove City Christian.

Meanwhile, Newark Catholic was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They took a 50-35 bruising from Heath. While losing is never fun, the Green Wave can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 642nd, while the Bulldogs are ranked 97th).

Fisher Catholic has been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 14-5 record this season. That patch can't be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 51.3 points over those games. As for Newark Catholic, their loss dropped their record down to 4-14.

Fisher Catholic was able to grind out a solid victory over Newark Catholic when the teams last played back in March of 2024, winning 55-47. Does Fisher Catholic have another victory up their sleeve, or will Newark Catholic turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
