Basketball Game Preview: Western Hills Wolverines vs. Great Crossing

Western Hills is 0-10 against Great Crossing since January of 2022 but things could change on Friday. The Western Hills Wolverines will face off against Great Crossing at 8:00 p.m. One thing working in Western Hills' favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last nine contests.

Western Hills is headed into the matchup having just posted their closest win since February 28, 2024 on Wednesday. They had just enough and edged out Franklin County 57-54.

Meanwhile, Great Crossing came tearing into Tuesday's game with 18 straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 21.5 points), and they left with even more momentum. They took their contest with ease, bagging a 74-35 victory over the Panthers. Great Crossing has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won 12 matchups by 20 points or more this season.

Western Hills better focus on containing Malachi Moreno and Vince Dawson as the pair were huge in Great Crossing's win. Moreno dropped a double-double with 11 points and 16 boards, while Dawson went 9-for-16 on his way to 19 points. The game was Dawson's fourth in a row with at least 16 points. Gage Richardson was another key player, putting up 11 points.

Great Crossing was working as a unit and finished the game with 21 assists. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now racked up at least 20 assists in three consecutive contests.

Western Hills' win ended a four-game drought on the road and puts them at 8-20. As for Great Crossing, their victory bumped their record up to 27-4.

Western Hills took a serious blow against Great Crossing when the teams last played back in January, falling 88-48. That match was all but decided by halftime, at which point Western Hills was down 44-24.
