Softball Recap: St. Helens Gets the Win

St. Helens posted their closest win since May 19, 2025 on Friday. They had just enough and edged out the Stayton Eagles 4-2. That's more bragging rights for the Lions, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

Eme Curaming spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on seven hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one walk in five consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Dakota Drake was excellent, going 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI. That's the most stolen bases she has posted since back in May of 2025. Addi Andrehsen also deserves some recognition as she brought in her first RBI of the season.

St. Helens always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .514. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

St. Helens is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 5-3 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.6 runs on average over those games. As for Stayton, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 2-3.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. St. Helens will face off against Estacada at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Stayton, they will square off against Gladstone at 4:30 p.m. on Monday.
