Baseball Recap: Capitan Comes Up Short

Capitan had lost 11 straight on the road dating back to last season, but on Tuesday they dropped their record down to 0-15 to make it 12. They lost 14-2 to the Mescalero Apache Chiefs. Unfortunately, that's the third time they've come up short against the Chiefs this season, with their most recent defeat being a 15-4 loss last Tuesday.

Capitan saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Greg Castro, who went 1-for-2 with one RBI. Xavier Wilson also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.

As for Mescalero Apache, their win ended a six-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 7-13. The result was nothing new for the Chiefs, who have now won six matches by six runs or more so far this season.

On Mescalero Apache's side, they let Ferron BigHunter and Ricardo Yuzos run wild. BigHunter got on base in all four of his plate appearances with four stolen bases, two triples, and three runs, while Yuzos went a perfect 4-for-4 with three RBI, one triple, and one stolen base. Those four hits gave Yuzos a new career-high. Lakai Whitewater was another key player, going 1-for-2 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.

Coming up, Capitan will head out to square off against Mesilla Valley Christian School at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. The SonBlazers will roll in looking for their tenth straight victory, something the Tigers surely won't give up without a fight. As for Mescalero Apache, they will host Lordsburg at 3:00 p.m. on Friday. The Chiefs' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Mavericks have averaged an impressive 11.1 runs per game this season.
