Basketball Game Preview: Gretna Hawks vs. Dan River Wildcats

The Gretna Hawks will head out to face off against the Dan River Wildcats at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Gretna knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past six contests -- so hopefully Dan River likes a good challenge.

Gretna is probably headed into the match with a chip on their shoulder considering Heritage just ended the team's five-game winning streak on Wednesday. They fell 67-60 to the Pioneers. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game on Tuesday (55), the Hawks still had to take the loss.

Meanwhile, Dan River entered their tilt with Martinsville on Monday with four consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with five. They enjoyed a cozy 65-50 victory over the Bulldogs.

Dan River's win was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 10-4. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 70.6 points per game. As for Gretna, their loss ended a ten-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 13-2.

Gretna was able to grind out a solid victory over Dan River when the teams last played back in December of 2024, winning 78-67. One of the biggest obstacles the team faced in that game was Dan River's Jameer Reynolds, who dropped a double-double on 34 points and 12 boards.
