Baseball Recap: Vassar Snaps Six-Game Streak of Losses at Home

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Marlette, Vassar was happy to have turned things around on Wednesday. They put the hurt on the Akron-Fairgrove Vikings with a sharp 12-0 victory. Considering the Vulcans' hitters had been struggling lately, the high-scoring outing was a much-needed turnaround.

Dakota Jaynes made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit over four innings pitched. Jaynes was also big at the plate, getting on base in all three of his plate appearances with two stolen bases and two runs.

In other batting news, Seth Hecht was a standout: he went 2-for-3 with four stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. Those four stolen bases gave him a new career-high. Trevor Gleeson was another key player, going 1-for-2 with three stolen bases, one run, and one RBI.

Vassar always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .667. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Vassar's win ended a six-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 2-6. As for Akron-Fairgrove, they dropped their record down to 0-7 with the loss, which was their tenth straight on the road dating back to last season.

Coming up, Vassar will be playing in front of their home fans against Bad Axe at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Vulcans are facing the Hatchets at the right time seeing as the Hatchets are stuck on a six-game losing streak. As for Akron-Fairgrove, they are taking a road trip to take on Dryden at 4:00 p.m. on Monday.
