Baseball Recap: Magnolia Comes Up Short

Magnolia extended their losing streak to four on Friday, dropping their season record down to 7-16 in the process. They lost 10-4 to the Wirt County Tigers. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Tigers this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 13-3 on Wednesday.

Magnolia saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Brayden Byers, who got on base in four of his five plate appearances with one double and one RBI.

As for Wirt County, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 12-9. The result was nothing new for the Tigers, who have now won seven games by six runs or more so far this season.

On Wirt County's side, Brody Ewing was incredible, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with seven stolen bases, three runs, and one double. Ewing is becoming a predictor of the Tigers' success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 9-1 (and 3-8 when he doesn't). The team also got some help courtesy of Wyatt Boice, who got on base in three of his five plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

Magnolia has already played their next match, a 9-3 loss against Notre Dame on the 12th. As for Wirt County, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, a 5-3 defeat against Gilmer County on the 13th.
