Softball Recap: Hickory Extends Home Winning Streak to Five

Hickory proved they can win big last Thursday (they won by ten) and on Wednesday they proved they can win the close ones too. They skirted past the Ellwood City Wolverine 4-2. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Hornets have posted since May 6, 2024.

AJ Jarzab spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on four hits and racked up 18 Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one walk in eight consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Olivia Schneider was excellent, going 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Layla McClung, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.

Hickory pushed their record up to 7-8 with the win, which was their fifth straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for Ellwood City, their defeat dropped their record down to 10-8.

Looking ahead, Hickory will square off against Sharon at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. The Hornets' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Tigers have averaged an impressive 10.7 runs per game this season. Ellwood City does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
