Recap: De Soto Pirates vs. New Lisbon Rockets
After a string of three wins, the De Soto Pirates's good fortune finally ran out on Saturday. They took a 57-51 hit to the loss column at the hands of New Lisbon. De Soto lost against New Lisbon in their previous head to head back in January of 2023, too, but the margin this time around was much closer than the 64-26 score last time.
Despite the defeat, De Soto saw an underclassman step up: Kylee Venner dropped a double-double on 28 points and 13 rebounds. Venner scored a full 54.9% of De Soto's points, the 12th time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Sylvia Krueger, who scored five points along with six blocks and five rebounds.
De Soto's loss dropped their record down to 7-5. As for New Lisbon, their victory ended a six-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 2-10.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. De Soto will take on Ithaca at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. As for New Lisbon, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Hillsboro at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Hillsboro is coming into the game on a three-game losing streak.
