Basketball Game Preview: Farmington Scorpions vs. Hobbs Eagles

The Farmington Scorpions will square off against the Hobbs Eagles at 6:30 p.m. on Friday.

Farmington is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of New Mexico's top teams: Gallup, who was ranked third at the time (Farmington was ranked fifth). Farmington fell 64-51 to Gallup on Tuesday. It was the first time this season that the Scorpions let down their fans at home.

Meanwhile, Hobbs came tearing into Tuesday's game with 16 straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 41.6 points) and they left with even more momentum. They claimed a resounding 75-24 victory over the Bulldawgs. The Eagles have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won 15 contests by 20 points or more this season.

Hobbs' win was their 11th straight at home, which pushed their record up to 17-1. Those victories came thanks to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 29.0 points per game. As for Farmington, their defeat ended a 20-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 12-3.

Farmington took a serious blow against Hobbs in their previous meeting back in December of 2024, falling 85-16. Can Farmington avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
