Basketball Recap: Branchville Triumphs

Branchville's game last Tuesday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Friday. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past the Charleston Math & Science Riptide 27-25. This was payback for the Yellow Jackets, who suffered a 41-7 defeat the last time these two teams met.

Branchville found their leader in sophomore Caley Shaw, who posted six points and seven steals. Shaw also set a new season-high mark in field goal percentage with 75%. Another player making a difference was Alayna Shaw, who put up six points.

Despite the loss, Charleston Math & Science still got an impressive performance from Cynay Taylor, who scored 16 points along with five boards and four steals. The dominant performance also gave Taylor a new career-high in blocks (two). Ellis Britt was another key player, putting up five points.

Branchville's first win this season bumped their record up to 1-13. As for Charleston Math & Science, they dropped their record down to 1-11 with the loss, which was their third straight on the road.

Branchville has already played their next contest (against Palmetto Scholars Academy), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. As for Charleston Math & Science, they didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 41-13 defeat against St. John's on the 11th.
