The Gabrielino Eagles will head out on the road to challenge the San Marino Titans at 5:15 p.m. on Monday.
Fans were treated to a battle of the Eagles on Friday. Gabrielino fell just short of Marshall by a score of 3-2. That makes it the first time this season Gabrielino has let down their home crowd.
Gabrielino wouldn't go down easily and took Marshall into a fifth set but they suffered a heartbreaking two-point loss. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-12, 19-25, 22-25, 25-18, 15-13.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for San Marino, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Tuesday. Everything went their way against Blair on Thursday as they made off with a 3-0 win. The Titans not only won on Thursday, but they posted their biggest win since September 24th (when they won 3-0).
The 3-0 score doesn't show just how dominant San Marino was: they took every set by at least 11 points. The match finished with set scores of 25-3, 25-8, 25-14.
San Marino's win came from a few key players Gabrielino will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Makayla Wong, who had seven assists and four aces. That's the most aces she has posted over her last seven matches. The team also got some help courtesy of Daniela Levy, who had ten digs and one assist.
San Marino was lethal from the service line and finished the match with 25 aces. That's the most aces they've managed all season.
Gabrielino's loss dropped their record down to 23-6-1. As for San Marino, they have been performing well recently as they've won six of their last eight contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 18-14-1 record this season.
Gabrielino suffered a grim 3-0 defeat to San Marino in their previous meeting back in September of 2024. Can the Eagles avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
