Baseball Recap: Holy Family Takes a Tough Playoff Loss

Despite a phenomenal run in the regular season, Holy Family couldn't carry that success into this playoff game. They took a 6-3 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Severance Silver Knights on Saturday. The Tigers' defeat signaled the end of their 11-game winning streak.

Austin Mireiter was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he pitched five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off five hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in 15 consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Brady Anderson was cooking despite his team's loss, going 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Nick Leopardi, who went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases and one run.

Holy Family's loss dropped their record down to 18-7. As for Severance, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 11 of their last 12 matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 19-6 record this season.

Holy Family does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Severance, they will face off against Pueblo County at 9:30 a.m. on Friday. The Hornets will roll in looking for their 18th straight victory, something the Silver Knights surely won't give up without a fight.
