Basketball Recap: Madeira Takes a Loss

Madeira lost against Stone Ridge School of the Sacred Heart last Friday, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Thursday. The Madeira Snails received a blow as they fell 44-25 to the Stone Ridge School of the Sacred Heart Gators. While losing is never fun, the Snails can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 234th in Virginia, while the Gators are ranked 51st in Maryland).

Among those leading the charge was Carrie Helfrich, who posted eight points in addition to eight steals and six assists. She is becoming a predictor of Stone Ridge School of the Sacred Heart's success: when she posts at least three steals the team is 14-5 (and 2-4 when she doesn't). Sophie Stoltz was another key player, almost dropping a double-double with 12 points and nine rebounds.

Madeira is on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 4-10. As for Stone Ridge School of the Sacred Heart, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 16-9 record this season.

Madeira does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Stone Ridge School of the Sacred Heart, they won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Episcopal at 5:00 p.m. on Friday.
