Basketball Recap: Newark Central Takes a Loss

Newark Central was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their fifth straight defeat. They took a 70-57 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Newark Tech Terries. While losing is never fun, the Blue Devils can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' New Jersey basketball rankings (they are ranked 301st, while the Terries are ranked 58th).

When it comes to explaining why Newark Central lost, don't look at Drean Aikins. Despite the final result, he dropped a double-double with 22 points and 12 boards. The team also got some help courtesy of Tamir Davis Jr, who posted 14 points.

Newark Central's loss dropped their record down to 5-17. As for Newark Tech, they are on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last ten matches, which provided a nice bump to their 17-5 record this season.

Newark Central has already played their next contest (against West Side), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. Newark Tech will get to enjoy the win for a while: their next game is against Bard on February 26th.
