Football Recap: John Jay Starts off Right with Win over Pine Bush

John Jay gave their fans exactly what they wanted out of a home opener on Friday. They breezed past the Pine Bush Bushmen to the tune of 41-8. Given the Patriots' advantage in MaxPreps' New York football rankings (they are ranked 74th, while the Bushmen are ranked 283rd) , the win wasn't entirely unexpected.

John Jay was led to victory by Cruz Calcagni and Logan Lawrence. Calcagni rushed for 62 yards and two touchdowns on only eight carries, while Lawrence threw for 131 yards and three TDs while completing 80% of his passes. Those two rushing touchdowns gave Calcagni a new career-high. 87 of Lawrence's passing yards were hauled in by Nate Johnson, who also brought in a receiving touchdown.
