Football Recap: Lanier Bulldogs vs. Newton Tigers
Lanier took care of business in their home opener on Friday (and then some). They blew past the Newton Tigers 54-6 at home. That's more bragging rights for the Bulldogs, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.
Jeremiah Wilson had a dynamite game for Lanier, rushing for 165 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 9.2 yards per carry. Wilson's rushing production has been exceptional recently as that marked his seventh straight game with at least 165 rushing yards dating back to last season. Another rusher making a difference was Knolyn-Bryce Archie Bailey, who rushed for 124 yards and a touchdown on only 11 carries.
On the other side of the ball, a lot of the credit has to go to Lanier's defense and their four sacks. Newton's QB won't forget DMarion Smith anytime soon given he sacked him twice.
Lanier will square off against Provine at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Newton, they will be defending their home-field for the first time this season they go up against Forest at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Newton will come in still looking for their first win of the season.
