Softball Game Preview: Willcox Cowboys vs. Santa Rita Eagles

The Willcox Cowboys will face off against the Santa Rita Eagles at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Willcox is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 10.3 runs per game this season.

Willcox is probably headed into the game with a chip on their shoulder considering Mica Mountain just ended the team's six-game winning streak on Tuesday. They fell just short of the Thunderbolts by a score of 6-5.

Willcox saw seven different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Abi Tingle, who went 1-for-3 with three RBI.

Meanwhile, Santa Rita hadn't done well against Morenci recently (they were 0-3 in their previous three matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. The Eagles blew past the Wildcats 23-1. Considering the Eagles' hitters had been struggling lately, the high-scoring outing was a much-needed turnaround.

The win snapped Santa Rita's losing streak at five games and leaves them with a 2-7 record. As for Willcox, their loss dropped their record down to 13-8.

Everything went Willcox's way against Santa Rita in their previous matchup back in April of 2016, as Willcox made off with a 17-2 victory. Do the Cowboys have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Eagles turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
