Baseball Game Preview: Mt. Vernon Marauders vs. Richmond Red Devils

The Mt. Vernon Marauders will take on the Richmond Red Devils at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Mt. Vernon will be looking to extend their current five-game winning streak.

Mt. Vernon's pitching crew heads into the contest hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Saturday. They walked away with a 3-0 victory over East Central.

The result came thanks to Braxton Loy's shutout, as he gave up just five hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Gavin Joy, who went 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI. That home run marked the first that he has launched this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Justin Jones, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases and one run.

Mt. Vernon hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least four batters in three consecutive games.

Meanwhile, Richmond fell victim to Lafayette Jefferson and their airtight pitching crew on Saturday. They lost 10-0 to the Bronchos.

Richmond also got a good showing from Cameron Rodriquez, who tossed 3.1 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits.

Mt. Vernon's win was their ninth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 17-7. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. As for Richmond, their defeat dropped their record down to 10-9.

Mt. Vernon couldn't quite finish off Richmond in their previous meeting back in April of 2024 and fell 2-0. Can the Marauders avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
