Baseball Recap: Lemon Bay Drops Season-High Score on Desoto County

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Lemon Bay). They were the clear victors by a 22-9 margin over the DeSoto County Bulldogs on Tuesday. The Manta Rays might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six matchups by eight runs or more this season.

Michael Schack made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing 3.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in strikeouts (five). He was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 3-for-5. Lemon Bay is undefeated when Schack posts two or more runs, but 5-6 otherwise.

In other pitching news, Drew Smith looked comfortable as he pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits. What's more, he posted five strikeouts, the most he's had since back in February.

Back at the plate, James Allen and Noah Hale did most of the damage at the plate: Allen scored four runs and stole a base while going 3-for-4, while Hale went 3-for-4 with five RBI, three runs, and one triple. Those three hits gave Allen a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Josh Morgan, who went 3-for-5 with four RBI and one triple.

Lemon Bay was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .571. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their batting average total in four consecutive contests.

Lemon Bay's win bumped their record up to 9-6. As for DeSoto County, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 6-14.

Lemon Bay didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next game, a 12-2 defeat against Neumann on the 3rd. As for DeSoto County, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next matchup, a 3-2 victory against Hardee on the 3rd.
