Football Recap: La Veta Takes a Loss

After flying high against Cotopaxi last Friday, La Veta came back down to earth. The Redhawks were outmatched by the Branson/Kim Bearcats and fell 70-16. The Redhawks haven't had much luck with the Bearcats recently, as the team has come up short the last seven times they've met.

Will Doherty continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines for Branson/Kim, rushing for 70 yards and three touchdowns on only six carries, while also picking up 67 receiving yards and one TD. Those three rushing touchdowns gave Doherty a new career-high. Cooper Winter was another key player, throwing for 112 yards and three touchdowns while completing 85.7% of his passes.

La Veta's loss dropped their record down to 1-4. As for Branson/Kim, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record up to 4-1.

La Veta will get a bit of extra time to process the defeat as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Caliche at 6:00 p.m. on the 17th. As for Branson/Kim, they will challenge Sierra Grande at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. The Bearcats will need to watch out since the Panthers have now posted at least 31 points every time they've taken the field this season.
