Basketball Recap: Huntingtown Wins Going Away Against Patuxent

Huntingtown posted their biggest win since December 16, 2024 on Wednesday. They blew past the Patuxent Panthers 51-27. Given the Hurricanes' advantage in MaxPreps' Maryland basketball rankings (they are ranked 64th, while the Panthers are ranked 205th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Kayla Ripple was the offensive standout of the matchup as she went 5 of 11 en route to 14 points. Jordin Bodden also deserves some recognition as she posted her first block of the season.

Huntingtown smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in 11 consecutive games.

Several Panthers players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Brooklyn Merritt, who almost dropped a double-double on 14 points and nine rebounds. Another player making a difference was Shannon Rullman, who posted six points and six boards.

Huntingtown's victory bumped their record up to 10-1. As for Patuxent, they have also traveled a rocky road recently having lost five of their last six contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-6 record this season.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Huntingtown will square off against McDonough at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Patuxent, they will face off against Leonardtown at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Leonardtown will roll in looking for their eighth straight win, something Patuxent surely won't give up without a fight.
