Volleyball Game Preview: Gateway Charter Griffins vs. Evangelical Christian Sentinels

Gateway Charter is 0-6 against Evangelical Christian since August of 2021 but things could change on Monday. After both having extra time off, the two teams will shake off the cobwebs and hit the court against one another at 7:00 p.m.

On Monday, Gateway Charter didn't have quite enough to beat Cape Coral and fell 3-2.

Gateway Charter wouldn't go down easily and took Cape Coral into a fifth set but they suffered a heartbreaking ten-point loss. The match finished with set scores of 25-23, 21-25, 21-25, 25-22, 15-5.

Meanwhile, Evangelical Christian entered their tilt with Imagine School at North Port on Tuesday with four consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with five. They put the hurt on the Sharks with a sharp 3-0 win.

Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-19, 25-4, 25-10.

Gateway Charter better focus on containing Olivia Holt and Reese Pool as the pair were huge in Evangelical Christian's win. Holt had five assists and four aces, while Pool had three digs and two aces. That's the most aces Holt has posted over her last six matches. Brianna Acosta also deserves some recognition as she served her first ace of the season.

Evangelical Christian was lethal from the service line and finished the match with 26 aces. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now served at least 14 aces in three consecutive contests.

Gateway Charter's defeat dropped their record down to 3-10. As for Evangelical Christian, their record now sits at 14-6.

Gateway Charter might still be hurting after the 3-0 loss they got from Evangelical Christian when the teams last played back in September. Can the Griffins avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
